The journey from Surabaya to Bromo covers a distance of about 100-130 km depending on where exactly you start the journey that takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours drive through the toll road. For Surabaya Bromo tour, you will certainly take the route through Pasuruan Regency (Wonokitri Gate) or Probolingo Regency (Cemara Lawang Gate).
The Surabaya Probolingo route is highly recommended because it offers a large selection of hotels near Mount Bromo. However, if you are looking for a 5-star luxury hotel, it is only available through the Surabaya Pasuruan route.
2. Bromo Tour from Malang
If you prefer the Malang Bromo trip, the distance is much closer — only about 53 km via the Tumpang (Coban Trisula Gate) route, takes about 1.5 to 2 hours.
The route from Malang through the gates of Coban Trisula Tumpang based on our experience is more extreme than other routes because you will drive in a jeep along steep cliffs, however, this route rewards you with stunning views of Siring Terrace Farm. Please note that you will not find a hotel near Bromo through this gate, as this route is more often used by prospective climbers of Mount Semeru.

- If you catch a flight with arrival at Surabaya airport morning or evening, choose a 2D1N package. This gives you time to rest at the hotel in the Cemara Lawang area before the early morning trip and there will be more opportunities to feel the atmosphere near bromo.

- If you are prone to motion sickness, avoid the Tumpang (Malang) and Wonokitri (Pasuruan) routes because the route is dominated by spinning roads and steep cliffs that are full of challenges. Keep using the Pasuruan and Probolinggo toll road routes to Cemara Lawang instead.
